Richard Thomas
MUSICAL DIRECTOR

Richard's love of sacred music was born whilst a chorister at Westminster Cathedral studying with Colin Mawby. Surrounded by so much wonderful music from 16th century Spain, France and Italy, along with numerous masterpieces from the English renaissance and more modern works from around the world, it is not surprising that when the opportunity arose to establish TREDICI he would return to these roots for inspiration.
Armed with a BMus from University College Cardiff he secured a job in the marketing department of the Philharmonia Orchestra. After several happy years there he was headhunted by the then co-owner of Rhinegold Publishing and appointed Marketing Manager. This successful relationship lasted for around 20 years. Richard is currently Marketing Manager at International Theatre & Music, just off Drury Lane, licensing a portfolio of musical theatre shows to professional, amateur and educational markets around the world.
Richard joined the Philharmonia Chorus in 1990 and remained a member of the tenor section for more than 15 years. An elected position on the Council of Management, held for several years, led to his being appointed Chairman of the Chorus in 1999.
His final concert with the chorus, in March 2007, was a Royal Gala Performance for the choir's 50th Anniversary. The idea for this event was hatched two years earlier when Richard invited Riccardo Muti to mark the occasion by conducting Verdi's Requiem. The eventual venue, rather fittingly, was Westminster Cathedral.
Richard was appointed Musical Director of St Matthew's Church Choir, Ealing Common in September 2005 after 15 years as a singer in the church. This affords him regular opportunities to unearth and conduct forgotten gems with the loyal singers there and also provides an incentive to improve his self-taught organ-playing.
In 2009 he attained an Intermediate Diploma in Choral Conducting through the Association of British Choral Directors.
